exodus, for light. 11/11/22

Practical reasons for moving. The space. The pace. The light. The land. A little bit more empty than what you had at home. A little more breadth where before there was tight. Less cars moving all together in a clump. No one living outside your window.

Along with these things, come some unknowns. Be careful what you wish for.

Unknown fact now known: If your driveway has a downhill, a curve, and an uphill on the way to the street, it will be really hard to get the ice out of when it snows. And it’s far to shovel or even snowblow and did you know that truck tracks in it build glaciers and glaciers get into cracks in the paving which are bad, and it’s north facing so it doesn’t get much sun to melt it?

Unknown fact now known: Putting in an agility field where there are rocks is going to cost unknown shit tons of money. And that sprinkler idea was a good one but the water cost is too high.

Unknown fact now known: The heat pump likes to maintain heat but not add it, to add heat it has to talk to the furnace and the furnace is what costs the big bucks so to have heat you are looking at serious cash and guess what, there are record low temps this week maybe even under twenty. If you want wood for the wood stove please order it in July.

Unknown fact now known: The way the sun hits your land depends on what your snow does. If you have a hill in the shade the snow may very well sit there forever even though over there, just past the property line the hill is in the sun and the snow over there is gone.

Unknown fact now known: A slow paced life because people can’t drive in the snow for dog agility is a slow paced life without income. Without income it’s hard to heat the house or pay $17 at the adorable food truck for the thing with the foraged mushrooms or buy the wooly snowboots.

Unknown fact now known: Good luck getting down that highway when it’s weather season. You are nestled into a remote mountain desert where the roads aren’t friendly and escaping to somewhere you actually no longer have a home so not such a good escape anyways because you’re going to need to shell out bucks just to sleep somewhere that will cost more than what you’d make working that week, but it might be irrelevant because the roads are going to hold you in, in the land of winter.

Unknown fact now known: These unknowns are problems with solutions, unless you’re a husband who had a mental break and then these are problems to drive you to the depths of despair.

Current level of problem solving-dogwalk no longer frozen in yard so good idea to practice verbal threadle cue off the exit.
